In an engaging conversation with Kamya Jani on Curly Tales, real estate visionary Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani shared one of the most unforgettable moments of his life.
He recalled, “On August 1, 2024, I got a call from Mr. Ratan Tata, a dear friend who is no longer with us. He asked me, ‘Niranjan, would you join me as a trustee in a new initiative I am starting the Tata Parkinson Trust?’ What else could I say? His trust in me was immense, and I accepted the role as co-trustee.”
This call came just over two months before Ratan Tata’s passing on October 9, 2024. For Hiranandani, it was a moment of profound responsibility, rooted in mutual respect and trust.
The Early Struggles that Defined Niranjan Hiranandani
Before rising to prominence as a real estate tycoon, Niranjan Hiranandani’s career was filled with challenges and experiments. He began his professional journey as a teacher and later ventured into managing a textile mill, a business that unfortunately failed.
Reflecting on those times, he shared, “Bad times have come many times. Whenever success arrived, people said you were lucky the city grew, you bought land at the right moment, things aligned. But the truth is, success never comes by chance.”
From First Success to Building Townships
After his initial achievements, Hiranandani chose not to stop but to aim higher. His boldest decision came with the launch of Hiranandani Estate in Thane, a location most developers had dismissed at that time.
He explained, “We moved forward with Hiranandani Estate in Thane, a site where no builder wanted to work. We made that project equally successful. The point is: such projects can succeed again and again, and we will continue this journey.”
Today, the Hiranandani brand is synonymous with large-scale integrated townships and modern infrastructure across Mumbai and beyond.
Recognizing Excellence in the Industry
Despite being a pioneer himself, Niranjan Hiranandani is quick to appreciate the work of others in real estate. During a visit to Gurugram, he admired DLF’s luxury project, The Camellias, calling it a benchmark that sets new standards in premium housing. According to him, such projects reflect the evolving aspirations of Indian real estate.
A Legacy Rooted in Values and Vision
Born in Mumbai on March 8, 1950, Niranjan Hiranandani completed his schooling at Campion School and later pursued commerce at Sydenham College. He qualified as a chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, establishing a strong academic foundation.
His father, Dr. Lakhumal Hiranand Hiranandani, was a renowned ENT surgeon and recipient of the Padma Bhushan. Carrying forward that legacy of excellence and service, Niranjan Hiranandani carved his own path in real estate, ultimately becoming one of India’s most influential developers.
